In speaking with so many of you and because of my insatiable appetite to digest everything about my new career in the luxury travel industry, I’ve learned so much this year about the ins and outs of the world most popular sites; jaw-droppingly beautiful and undiscovered destinations; truly authentic and bespoke experiences; remarkable partners, accommodations, and hosts; and of course, all the travel guidelines, restrictions, tips and tricks to navigate the constantly changing landscape of international and domestic travel.
For over a year, I’ve been pulling on the reins of anxious travelers and telling you all to be patient. Well, while we’re not completely out of the woods yet, now is the time to start planning your next awesome travel experience. In fact, the most popular destinations are already filling up for 2022.
As we continue to emerge from the pandemic and we look to satisfy our pent-up demand to travel again, here are the trends and a few things you should consider:
· Safe Travel – The effects of the worldwide pandemic have been devastating for the travel industry and travelers themselves. While there’s no way to guarantee safety, vetting destinations and accommodations based on their safety protocols is essential.
· Personalized Travel - Arguably the most important element of a luxury trip is creating a personalized experience.
· Flexibility – A cookie-cutter approach won’t work with today’s seasoned luxury travelers.
· Customized and Private Tours - More and more travelers are taking part in a tour of their chosen destination. This all ties into the desire to get to know the country that they’re visiting.
· Experiential Travel - Surveys consistently confirm that it is unique experiences rather than things that make us happy. Immersive travel is all about connecting with local communities and a different way of life.
· Frictionless Travel - As travel has become more complicated, luxury travelers are seeking ways to make their journeys less difficult.
· WOW Factor – Thanks in part to Instagram and other social media platforms, travelers are looking for that ‘perfect’ pic to share with their followers.
· Attention to Detail – Promises are one thing but delivering on all the little details is everything to discerning travelers.
· Hidden Gems – Many luxury travelers are seeking places that are off the beaten path. They have either already been to the popular spots or are seeking less crowded alternatives.
· Responsible Travel - While it’s not generally a deciding factor when picking somewhere to stay, sustainability is increasingly a consideration for luxury travelers.
