India…It’s Complicated.

I'm not gonna lie, India is not for everyone and my first trip to this enchanted land was a bit intimidating - no, let me rephrase that... I was petrified.
Please understand, I was traveling alone to the other side of the planet; I'm not a fan of crowds; and I LOVE food but at this point in my life, I'm always worried about what I'm eating (not nearly as adventurous as I once was); I'm a bit of a health nut, not a germaphobe, but I like things a certain way; and not to mention, I get a little anxious just before I travel anywhere away from home (I blame my mom for that because she was the same way - must be hereditary). Of course, all of my quirks didn't help prepare me for my trip - I was a mess.
But, like many amazing adventures, you've just got to push yourself out of your comfort zone!! So, with my suitcase filled with granola bars, sanitary wipes, and other essential survival items for a pampered traveler, I made my way to Punjab and fell in love.
Like I said, India is complicated. Everything has a tint of brown - not dirty but kinda; there's a funky smell to the place - I wasn't quite sure if if was really good or really bad; the people are so nice that a weary American would think they're too nice - "what do they want from me" kind of a feeling; you see some of the most incredibly magical sights next to abject poverty; the food all looks and tastes the same but different... Again, it's complicated.
I've been back three times since and if my wife would get on board, I could live in India - it is that wonderful. For a truly different vacation experience in one of the most fascinating destinations on the planet, try India. I've got friends in the country who would love to share their culture, history, and cuisine with you.
A trip to India is beyond a bucket list item, it is truly a life-changing experience.
